This is the first By the Meter magazine!
Firstly, we’d like to thank you for investing your money into our publication. In a time when the internet has consumed the vast majority of published media, we are extremely grateful for your support, and we’d like you to know that the money we raise from this magazine will go towards growing our community and bringing you more of the entertainment that you know and love.
A celebration of rhythm and cadence is how we first defined By the Meter, which started life as an evening of poetry and funky music, in the seaside town of Blackpool. Since late 2021, the event has grown to cult status, bringing in poets from all around the north of England to deliver their words to crowds of enthusiastic, entertainment hungry patrons, most of whom didn’t previously realise they had thirst for spoken word and performance poetry.
As it happens, the crowd which hosts Nathan Parker and Rob del Terror attracted, have proven to be some of the best in the Northwest, providing performers with an atmosphere far beyond the expectations of regular poetry and spoken word events.
By the Meter has since grown to become a brand, one which now encompasses a regular open mic night at the awesome Ronnie’s Bar and Eatery, a podcast and now this, a physical magazine.
We intend on releasing the magazines in conjunction with the main By the Meter event, which occurs three times a year at Bootleg Social in Blackpool.
We’ll be showcasing the best of the Norths poetic offerings, in way of interviews with performers, spotlights on up-and-coming poets, submissions, reviews and directories of events as well as opinion pieces and a look at the wider arts community.
We hope you have as much fun reading the publication as we have had creating it.
Thanks again for your support, much love,
Nath & Rob x
